Relentlessly gruesome, self-consciously shocking and pretty much pointless.. It is possible to have a good time at RED, but it is not a very good movie. It doesn't really try to be, and given the present state of the Hollywood economy, this may be a wise choice.. Try as he might, Lee cannot repurpose this empty genre tale to be deeper than it is.. Everything is wrong with [Spike] Lee's version of Park Chan-wook's notorious, super-violent super-action-thriller. For one thing, it's far from super....
